Pharmacy2U - UK’s first online pharmacy service
Pharmacy2U was launched in November 1999 as the UK’s first online pharmacy service. Since launch Pharmacy2U has continually developed its service and it now provides a convenient, confidential, efficient and professional service to patients and consumers.
They offer their customers 24-hour access to thousands of products including NHS and private prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, health and beauty products, fine fragrances and exclusive skincare ranges with many at reduced prices compared with the high street.
Pharmacy2U has developed unique procedures and protocols that allow their pharmacists to check the suitability of a medicine for a particular patient and ensure its safe delivery. Qualified pharmacists supervise their service and they are members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the National Pharmaceutical Association.
In March 2001 Pharmacy2U was invited to run a pilot on behalf of the NHS to electronify the paper based prescription process. In March 2002 Pharmacy2U was the first company in the UK to successfully transmit an electronic prescription between the GP, Pharmacy and the Prescription Pricing Authority. Pharmacy2U now has GP Practices from all over the country sending prescriptions to Pharmacy2U and they have received and processed over 100,000 messages. In Jan 2003 they received authorisation from the Department of Health to continue and extend the pilot, and they are committed to meeting the government's objectives of having 50% of all prescriptions sent electronically by 2005.
